"Building Back Better" Update

Published Sun 05 Mar 2023

Incredibly exciting news for MRC – our grant application to build the ramp has been successful! A massive thank you to #OfficeofSport for helping MRC secure a path to the future!
Whilst we don’t have a date for the work to start, the planning with #TweedShireCouncil now begins in earnest.  Thank you to the many people who helped and supported our application.

In the Feb 2022 flood the riverbank at the rowing club in Murwillumbah was eroded to such an extent that access to the river was lost.  Since then, training in large boats and all regattas (rowing and dragon boats) have had to be cancelled on the Tweed.  (Some small boat training has been possible thanks to a neighbour allowing use of their access and thanks to the tolerance of many others.

The bank has now been reinforced with rock by #TweedShireCouncil to prevent further erosion and this Grant from the NSW Government and Australian Government will enable us to build an all tide access ramp that will enable rowing and paddling to be restored.

It will be a major undertaking in partnership with #TweedShireCouncil who will provide construction supervision, project management and procurement oversight, as well as completing all approvals.

We hope that by this time next year, river access will be fully restored and non-powered craft will again be able to utilise this fabulous stretch of water.
